Service Information Update
November 15, 2007
A new generation of technology evolves every 18 to 24 months.  A recent study estimates that about 40 million computer systems become obsolete in the U.S. annually. By 2010, about one billion PCs will likely have become obsolete. The cost of storage is steadily increasing as space diminishes and other resources dedicated to storage are wasted. RECYCLING IS THE SOLUTION!
LST is your best source for the proper disposal of out dated technology equipment. Properly disposing of computer equipment is an ongoing task that is often unresolved for many of today’s schools, universities, businesses and government agencies. Left unattended, the problem of obsolete IT equipment can easily become costly and resource-intensive.
Old monitors, televisions and other hardware components contain hazardous metals and chemicals that are toxic to our environment. The improper disposal of obsolete electronics in our landfills releases deadly toxins, such as lead, zinc, cadmium, mercury and copper, into our soil, water and atmosphere causing both environmental and health problems. In fact, cathode ray tubes found in most computer monitors and television sets contain more than four pounds of lead each. As a result, the Environmental Protection Agency in 2006 passed the CRT Rule, which prevents the land disposal of cathode ray tubes and streamlines management standards and encourages recycling. Due to the negative environmental impact, heavy fines, up to $25,000, per machine can be levied.
Upon completion of your equipment's disposal, you will receive a Certificate of Disposal. The certificate verifies that your obsolete technology equipment was recycled to meet Local, State and Federal guidelines.
